Winchester Model 1873 Sporting Rifle .44-40 with Factory 24 inch Round Barrel. The serial number of this example is 594XX placing date of manufacture in 1880. The Buffalo Bill Museum Letter that will accompany this rifle provides the following description at time of shipment: Type: Rifle, Barrel Shape: Round, Trigger: Plain, Received into the Warehouse: October 4th, 1880, Shipped from the Warehouse: October 15th, 1880. Order Number: 22476. Overall condition is very good with the original untouched factory rust blue toned to a very nice even blue / plum patina. The bore is very good wind will rate an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. The rifling is sharp and strong with shine from the muzzle to the breech. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. All correct for an early second model including no caliber markings on the Barrel or unpolished Brass Follower.
