The balance of the 20,000 Savages produced during the Civil War went to the Army and to civilians. The Naval Inspector's initials, J.R.G.,( Capt. John R. Goldsborough ) are clearly stamped on the cylinder, as is the letter "P" which indicated the gun passed inspection. The serial numbers are matching, #1825, showing production in 1861-62. The gun is in good condition with a very good bore and cylinder chambers. The trigger guard retains most of its case hardening color. The hammer and trigger retain some of their original color. There is no significant pitting on the gun. The gun operates mechanically as designed. The walnut stocks are solid and in good condition, although there are two parallel lines scratched on each side, meaning unknown. All nipples are present, but some have dry fire damage.
