Description:
This is an extremely rare Kentucky half stock, extremely well kept, Well marked with M. MOXLEY ,run away slave, stamped three times on the barrel. Moxley story of his escaping from slavery to become a GUN Smith in Ohio, is amazing, they just did a speech on his life in Louisville at the Frazier Museum. The workman ship on the barrel includes stars on the nipple and stars on the barrel muzzle end , and the brass sight that was common to Moxley barrels. The guns trigger is ornately engraved , with the  other gun makes name J.TARRATT & sons, and the lock plate has two quail and floral designs on the lock plate & trigger. The tiger maple stock is just beautiful with a nice patina and stripes running through the wood , the pictures do not do this gun justice. The brass work is beyond ornate with the patch box ornately inlayed , and the brass butt plate is amazing. The double trigger holds the gun cocked perfect, and works smoothly. The brass trigger guard is ornate and beautiful. The brass ramrod holders still hold the original strait hickory ramrod, with both end having the original steel ferrels to tamp the powder.  The guns patina and I left the green in the patch box to shows the age, 1840's my guess. I have never seen one this good in years. 859-533-5445
