Pennsylvania Percussion Long Rifle With Josh Golcher Lockplate, CA. 1840’s. .42 Caliber with 39 ½” octagonal pinned barrel on full length tiger maple stock, OAL 55 ½”. Unknown maker with no visible barrel markings. Josh Golcher marked lockplate with floral style engravings on both lock & hammer. Silver plated brass oval sideplate with engraving on outer edges. Double Set Triggers with Brass furniture including three brass drawdown pins securing barrel to stock, Kentucky style faceted brass triggerguard with rear finger-spur & faceted rectangular forward finial & brass buttplate with faceted upper finial. The engraved brass cap box has sculpted pineapple type forward finial with outer edges engraved. Raised cheek piece with silver oval inlay with outer edge engraving matching patchbox & sideplate. Very good condition overall with crisp markings on lockplate. Metal showing some scattered pitting. Stock is very good showing scattered use marks & typical repair at toe. Nice example of the iconic Pennsylvania/Kentucky Longrifle.
