Description:
This is a brass framed Henry Late Model Rifle manufactured in 1865.  One of the most advanced firearm designs to come out of the Civil War, The Henry rifle also served as the basis for the legendary Winchester line of lever actions.  Although a revolutionary rifle, it was made in relatively limited quantities, only about 14,000 produced between 1860 and 1866.  About 1,731 Henry rifles were purchased by the Ordnance Department between 1862 and 1865.  A number of units in the West purchased them at their own expense.  It was especially popular in the border states of Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Indiana.  The 1st Maine and 1st District of Columbia cavalry regiments are known to have been issued Henry rifles.Any contemporary rifle collection is not complete without a Henry rifle.
