WWII IMPERIAL Japanese KOKURA Type 99 Rifle C&R
With Unique Anti-Aircraft Rear Sight!
Here we present a Japanese Type 99 Bolt Action Rifle & Bayonet, made circa 1940 at the Kokura Arsenal. The Type 99 Rifle was conceived as an upgrade in chambering from the Type 38 Rifle designed by Nambu. While the 38 utilized the 6.5x50mm cartridge, the 99 was made to handle the larger, more powerful 7.7x58mm. These rifles were simple and very effective. Nearer the end of the war, with the U.S. successfully restricting traffic to the island nation, raw materials and other resources became more and more scarce, leading the arsenals to simplify production and materials even further. These no-nonsense rifles are known to current collectors as “last ditch”.
Per the markings on the receiver, this rifle was made by the Kokura Arsenal, and it was number 67599 of the 21st series.
The overall condition is very good. The original blue finish is 80%. The markings are clear. The stock is in great shape. The lower barrel band is lacking its original screw. The bore and action are excellent. Here is a great example of an Imperial Japanese infantry rifle from World War II!
