Description:
C. Masquelier 12 Gauge Shotgun
ENGRAVED, 6LBS. 6OZ, NICE!

General Specs: C. Masquelier, Belgium, Year 1947, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 6oz, SxS
Serial Number: 54327

Charles Masquelier was the maker of fine shotguns in the gun making center of Liege, Belgium from 1925 to 1956.  He was known for top quality sporting shotguns.  This fine 12ga. side by side shotgun is a good example of the quality he provided to his customers in 1947, the year this gun was made.  This gun, serial number 54327 was made for carrying in the uplands all day long without fatigue.  At 6lbs. 6oz. it is lighter than many American made 20-gauge guns!  If you spend some time looking at the photos and examining the many upscale features of this gun, you will find it is an extremely good value from a known Belgium maker.  The hand-engraved receiver is skillfully covered with scroll and floral engraving, very nicely executed.  The trigger guard follows the same hand engraved motif, as does a barrel wedge of engraving at the breech end of the barrels.  The action is rebated at the top to accept the head of the stock and prevent “splaying” or spreading of the wood in the wrist area.  The back of the action is nicely scalloped, which takes a lot of hand filing and only found on finer guns.  The bottom of the action is sculpted, again, all hand filed!  The 27.5” barrels are choked .009/.015, or IC/LM, making this the perfect grouse and pheasants over dog gun, as well as a near perfect sporting clays gun.  The barrels are made of ACIER SIEMENS fluid steel, a very premium steel from Belgium.  The barrels and belly of the stock are adorned with sling-swivels in the European fashion.  They can be removed and the holes repaired invisibly for those who do not like them, but hey, how many times do you wish you had your hand free in the field and there were no good trees nearby???  Or training a dog and wanting hands free to shock the sense back into him?  Slings on shotguns are not the worst idea.  We can eliminate them easily though.  The nicely figured English walnut stock has drop points, nice checkering with a unique double border, horn butt plate nicely checkered and the maker’s mark carved in artfully.  For those that need higher stock dimensions, this stock will bend easily and if you notice, the drop at the nose of the comb is actually rather high at 1 ½”.  We bend a lot of stocks here in our shop.  This would make a great field gun, light as a feather, nicely balanced, choked just right for most of your upland birds.  A better value you will not find in a super-light, nicely engraved premium shotgun.  Thanks for looking!
