Great Vintage Personal Defense Revolver!
Here we present an antique Hopkins & Allen “XL No. 3” Single Action Revolver, made circa 1870s. Hopkins & Allen were prolific makers of the popular revolvers known as “suicide specials”. These pocket-sized revolvers were made such that the price easily undercut better known and established companies like Colt. As a result, many of Colt’s similar lines were shut down for their inability to compete.
These pistols are just as much a part of the history of the American West as any. Whether a person was a homesteader, cowboy, shopkeeper, gambler or railroad man, almost everyone carried a gun and many carried these.
The overall condition of this revolver is fine. The original nickel finish has a nice patina. Case colors are very nice on the hammer. The markings are clear and legible. This revolver features very nice factory engravings throughout the frame, cylinder and barrel. The original walnut grips are in very good condition. The bore is sharp. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a very attractive example of an antique Hopkins & Allen!
