Description:
This Merwin & Bray “cupfire” Civil War-era revolver came in with several other collectible guns. It is chambered in .42 cal and uses the “cupfire” ammunition which is loaded from the front of the cylinder, and ejected back out through the front via a bolt-action ram rod device situated on the RH side of the frame. A very unique loading system to circumvent the Rollin White patent.

Overall in great shape with some bluing remaining on the barrel, about 50% silver coating over brass on frame, and two fine and serial numbered-matched grip panels which are crack-free and only have a few nicks. Action seems to work just fine with good cylinder lock-up and sequencing. Barrel bore is rifled and looks to have just a little spotting midway down the barrel. Only detractor is the typical period conversion which opened up the rear of the cylinder holes to aid in cartridge extraction. Apparently the cases used to get stuck. This conversion also allowed the use of other period ammunition. Most collectors look for both types of cylinders for their collections.
