Description:
Browning Superposed 20 Gauge
SUPERLIGHT, OVER/UNDER GUN

General Specs: Browning, Belgium, Year 1973, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 15oz, O/U
Serial Number: 3379 V73

The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most prolific designs.  Produced in plain jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1976 when production stopped.   In 1969 Browning introduced the Superposed "SUPERLIGHT" in the 20ga. and finally was born a true upland bird gun.  A typical Browning Lightning model weighs about 6 1/2lbs. in 20ga.  At 5lbs. 15oz. and balanced perfectly between the hands, this 20 bore Superlight is over 1/2lb. lighter!  This is a dynamic upland bird gun, with its straight hand stock, rounded frame, and schnabel forend that can be carried all day without fatigue.  This gun, sn3379 V3 built in 1973, is one of only 746 total 20ga. Superlight guns made between 1969 and 1977.  Better yet, the gun retains 99.5% factory original condition with only a few light handling marks in the wood.  Speaking of wood, this Superlight has the nicest figured wood I have ever seen on a Grade 1, as they are usually quite plain.  The wood on this gun has “fiddleback” figure that changes as the light hits it from different angles.  Browning guys are known to love the more figured wood and the gun is worth more because of it.  Highly desired by upland hunters that are in the know, these guns usually trade in the mid-$4000 range or more when in slightly used condition showing wear on the bottom of the receiver and the usually nicks and dings from use.  This gun, with nicely figured factory wood, 100% factory blue on the receiver, barrels, and trigger guard, with only the slightest wear by the safety button, clean inside and out and barely fired is worth a bit more.  Keep in mind that this gun is POST SALT WOOD ERA, PRODUCED IN 1973 AFTER THE DEBACLE HAD ENDED.  Many of the earlier guns were plagued with salt stocks and are not worth as much as the later guns.  There are few Over/Under 20ga. shotguns that weigh under 6lbs.  The Superposed 20ga. guns have been going up in value in the last year or two, so they are a great investment quality gun that will be worth more in the future as you care for it and enjoy its use.  Thanks for looking!
