Description:
Winchester Model 1873 Sporting Rifle with Special Order Factory 26 inch Octagon Barrel and "Rocks Mountain Front Sight" with "German Silver Blade". This is an early Second Model only offered in .44-40, no Caliber markings will be found on the Barrel or Brass Follower. The serial number of this example is 493XX placing date of manufacture in 1880. Overall condition is very good with the Barrel and Magazine retaining 50% of the original factory Rust Blue toning to a very nice even plum / blue patina. The bore is very good with strong rifling and shine from breech to muzzle. The bore will rate an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. The receiver has retained 20% of its factory blue found in protected places. Untouched, unpolished Brass Follower with a very pleasant Marbled Mustard patina. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect action. Correct "Thumb Print" Dust Cover. Wood to metal fit is very good, with sliver missing at right hand guard. Nice untouched Second Model with Special Order 26 inch Barrel.
