Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: This is an interesting and scarce Japanese rifle with some neat provenance accompanying it. The Japanese Arisaka Type 99 Long rifle was manufactured for only a short period of time starting in 1939 before the Japanese determined it unfit for their style of warfare, and moved to make the "short" Type 99 the standard arm. The low production numbers of these long Type 99s make them scarce and very collectible today. This particular Type 99 Long rifle was manufactured by the Toyo Kogyo factory in Hiroshima Prefecture. These early guns displayed a commercial quality gloss blue finish and some strawed small parts making them quite attractive. This rifle has a ground mum and a mismatched bolt, but it is exactly in the same configuration and condition it was sent here in by Sgt. Virgil Kimes during/after World War 2. The high gloss blue finish on the barrel and receiver still looks great, and the bore is very good/excellent with no pitting. The strawed finish small parts still show a lot of the yellow finish as well, with the strawed springs on the rear sight and the bolt release being particularly bright and attractive. The un-numbered barrel bands are both the correct early types, and both are tight to the gun. The original stock is in great shape structurally, but it does have some dents, scratches, and handling wear. On the keel of the buttstock there are a couple of still visible Japanese character stamps. Everything works on the rifle 100% like the day it left the factory. This rifle comes with an interesting bit of history, part of the crate that the rifle was shipped to the States in. As you can see in the pictures, it has hand painted addresses on it from the G.I. who captured it. From what we can decipher his name was Sgt. Virgil Kimes of Battery "B" of the 921st Field Artillery, and he sent the Type 99 Long rifle to a family member named William Kimes in Delano, California. This Type 99 Long rifle and original piece of the shipping crate would make a great display piece for a wall mount in a gun room or man cave.
