Description:
Remington Beals Type III 1858 Navy Ser # 4929

Appendix C of Donald L. Ware’s “Remington Army and Navy Revolvers 1861 – 1888” estimates that this revolver was manufactured in November 1861

According to Ware, Beals Navy models were manufactured from April 1861 to June 1862, and about 15,000 were made.  Ware (pg 27) estimates that "over thirteen thousand were purchased by the army, navy or state militias" - there are no martial markings on this revolver, but it still could have been one of the 13,000

Barrel address is correct but appears to have been enhanced with hand engraving device

         BEALS’ PATENT SEPT. 14 1858
MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS ILION. N.Y.

Cone front sight

Matching serial numbers on the bottom of the barrel, on the frame inside the left grip, and on the bottom of the tab of the trigger guard

7.5” octagon barrel – Bore has strong rifling with light to moderate pitting – on 1 to 10 scale, my opinion is 6/7

Barrel threads entirely concealed by frame

Late Beal’s cylinder (Ware page 57 fig. 40)

No safety notches between nipples

Ram lever has small web

Ram must be lowered to withdraw arbor pin

Grips are excellent, but may have been refinished or replaced

Original trigger was repaired, because the hammer would not hold half cock.  Hammer now holds half cock and full cock, and the action locks up tight and indexes properly.

I removed the low quality rebluing and the gun is now bare metal on all surfaces

Payments must be received by me within seven days of our agreement to sell an antique firearm.  I will tell you by phone or email the date on which the seven day period begins and the date by which I must receive payment from you.

I will ship antique firearms by USPS Priority Mail, and I will provide the tracking number to buyers by email.  Buyers will pay a flat fee of $15 for shipping within the US, and actual shipping costs, including the cost of the box, postage, and insurance for shipping outside the US.

Buyers have a five-day inspection period, starting from the delivery date shown by the shipper’s tracking information.  During the five days, buyers may return an antique firearm and receive a refund.  Returned antique firearms must be received by me within 10 days of the date on which the buyer received it by the same shipper I used, and buyers shall pay all of the costs for packing and shipping, including insurance. Antique firearms must be returned in the same condition they were in when received by the buyer.  During the five-day inspection period or during the return process, buyers shall not disassemble or fire antique firearms without my prior consent. If a buyer located outside of the United States wants to purchase an antique firearm from me, please call or email me, and we will discuss whether and how to complete such a sale.

I truly enjoy collecting, examining, and discussing antique firearms, especially weapons from the civil and indian war periods.  It is my hope that the people I deal with share that joy.  I want the people who purchase my antique firearms to be pleased with their purchases and take pleasure in owning fine arms.
