WWII U. S. 1903 A3 30-06 bolt-action rifle. s/n 4725068 June 1943. If you know your small arms WWII history, this variant of this rifle is rare, an excellent rifle, with six rifling grooves for hyper-accurate fire which was well above the government contract minimum specification. SC was competiting for these. Prior to my purchase, the rifle appears to have been tapped for a scope but has the original excellent rear sight that is so effective and popular, which was the basis of the M-16 and civilian AR-15. I had high standards from my family firearm collection; my father was a marksman. I am writing a story about craftsmanship in WWII firearms, and bought this one specifically as an example of a perfectly engineered bolt-action rifle, based on its historical reputation. I only fired it at indoor rifle range using top grade ammunition. It did not disappoint. It has been well maintained. I only sell it because my research is complete, and this will help finance the time off I need to complete the novel.
