Description:
This is a factory model of the Remington Model 700 we have not seen in many years, the "AS" model. The Model 700 AS featured a Arylon stock made by Dupont and was made for just a few short years from 1989 to 1991. Dupont spent many years and many millions of dollars in developing the Arylon material and marketed it as an extremely durable and tough polymer material suitable for a very wide range of uses, even suitable for replacing steel in automotive applications among others. Remington decided to market a Model 700 with a stock made of Arylon as a lightweight all-weather rifle. For a number of reasons the Dupont material never caught on, and was a huge financial loss for the company. As mentioned before, Remington dropped it from their product line after 3 years amid slow sales. Because of the short production time we do not see many of these floating around, and rarely this nice. This rifle is in like-new condition, and unfired except for the factory test firing. The previous owner bought it new, mounted a used scope he had on it, and it has been in storage ever since. The factory matte black finish is 99%. The bore in the 22" inch barrel with factory iron sights is minty and bright with no pitting or erosion. The rifling is still new with sharp lands and grooves. The original stock is also in like-new condition with no handling marks, cracks, or repairs. It came from the factory with a black rubber Remington branded recoil pad and sling swivel studs installed as well. It has a Weaver 3 to 9 power scope mounted on it on Weaver bases and nice rings. It comes with the original box with the serial numbered end label intact. This rifle would be an excellent addition to any Remington 700 collection as a unique short production run model variation.
