This regiment was famously known as the " Silk Stocking Regiment", because of the fancy grey uniforms and the large number of socially prominent men in their ranks. In April 1861 they were called to active duty and sent to guard Washington D.C. They also briefly crossed into Virginia, near Arlington, ( Confederate territory ), but mainly were deployed in Washington D.C. In 1862 their name was changed to the New York National Guard, and this kempi has the brass NG button on each side. Also the famous number 7 is present on the kempi front. The kempi is in good overall condition, with several small moth nips. The kempi is grey with black piping. The visor is detached from the kempi body in the center but otherwise still attached on each end. The manufacturer's label is still visible. A great addition to your collection. SOLD |
