Description:
Colt 1911 National Match .45 ACP
ENGRAVED WITH GOLD/SILVER

General Specs: Colt, Year 1967, .45 ACP, 2lbs 7oz
Serial Number: 19720 NM

The Colt National Match is a much revered pistol designed from the factory for accuracy and competitive target shooting.  It was shipped with a match grade barrel, hand fitted slide, Elliason adjustable rear sight, and a tuned trigger with an adjustable trigger stop that breaks crisply like a glass rod.  Produced originally from 1932 to 1942, production ceased for WWII.  Colt revamped the National Match and resumed production in 1957 with a gun that had the deep, rich royal blue finish, hand tuned to shoot tight groups, and a gorgeous Colt 1911 in every way.  This gun, sn19720NM made in 1967, is a very special gun as it is engraved with deeply cut vine and foliate engraving, with raised gold and silver inlays elegantly flowing across the entire slide and frame of the pistol.  This work was superbly executed with a nicely shadowed background by well-known Master Engraver Shiro Ogawa of Japan.  Ogawa made an impact in the United States in the 1960’s and is prominently known in the Smith and Wesson and Winchester lever rifle world.  Having trained in Germany to Master Engraver status and then opening his own school of engraving, Shiro Ogawa has created a masterpiece with this Colt National Match.  The frame is finished in a soft satin that is embellished on all sides with border engraving and nicely executed scroll.  The slide is finished in a rich, deep, high polish charcoal blue with the exception of the top radius and rib, which is mat finish to reduce glare.  The work is signed in Ogawa’s hand on the right side of the spring housing ahead of the frame.  The grips are Wooly Mammoth, or Mastadon ivory  and fit perfectly to the gun.  The gun was likely new before the art was applied, and it retains 99% blue finish with only slight wear showing at the muzzle end of the slide.  Even the bottom of the magazine is nicely engraved.  This gun is one of the most elegant engraved 1911’s I have seen in some time, with just the right amount of “bling” without getting too heavy on the gold or silver.  The grips are a perfect contrast to the engraving and rich blue finish.  We have priced this gun to appeal to those looking for the best of quality at a “deal” of a price, so don’t let it get by you.  There are few offered for sale of this quality.  Thanks for looking.
