About Us: I have been collecting firearms for over 40 years. My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles

Description:
This is an exceptional First Model 1916 Newton rifle in .30 USG (30-06) caliber with two factory options, a Newton designed bolt peep sight and sling swivels. Serial numbers (3940) are all matching and stamped in 11 places on the rifle. Slightly over 14% of this model or about 575 rifles were made in this caliber. This caliber can be difficult to find in collectable condition because, I think, they were used due to the availability of 30-06 ammo. The rear sight is an original Newton designed sight and the front sight is a Marbles Sheard with a gold bead which I also think is original to the rifle. The rifle retains 99% of the original blue on the barrel, receiver and grip cap and 98% on the floorplate and trigger guard. The buttplate has 92% of its original blue. There is no blue wear on the knurled part of the bolt handle. The rifle has a mirror bright bore. There are no cracks in the stock. The stock finish has a very light crazing in some areas. There are two light marks in the stock on the left side near the back of the forearm checkering. This rifle came from the collection of Bruce Jennings the author of Charles Newton, The Father of High Velocity. Rifle number 3940 is also pictured in The History and Details of Newton HIgh Power Rifles, The Newton Rifle, First Edition and The Newton Rifle, Second Edition. I prefer to ship USPS, will ship UPS if requested and WILL NOT ship Fed Ex.
