EARLY, ANTIQUE SERIAL NUMBER 1895 FLATSIDE RIFLE IN .30 U.S. CALIBER (.30-40 KRAG) WITH LONG LYMAN RECEIVER SIGHT, #1XXX, MADE 1896. Has the correct one-piece lever found only on these early models, Lyman sight correctly marked with June 25, ’95 patent dates and retains the small folding aperture peep, exc. stock and forend show only light handling with tight wood to metal fit, ebony wedge forend tip intact, good thinning receiver blue toward the middle of the side panels with more blue on the receiver sight side that is protected, good thinning blue on the upper portions of the receiver bottom where the lever connects and some blue on the magazine sides, all correct markings, buckhorn rear barrel sight intact, evenly thinning barrel blue mixing gray, exc. markings on tang and barrel fine bore is only a little dark, the only alteration to the rifle that I can see is the muzzle has been slightly “recessed” or crowned as one might see on a target rifle- probably there was a small ding at one time right at the opening to the muzzle and this took care of it- not visible unless looking directly down the bore. One of the very first of the 1895 rifles.
