Description:
If you have been looking for a beautiful and super accurate .22 bolt action rifle this is it!  This is a 1970's vintage Anschutz Model 54 Sporter with a spectacular custom French Walnut stock.  The Anschutz Model 54 Sporter has long had the reputation as one of the finest .22 sporter-style rifles ever made by this well respected German armsmaking firm or anyone else for that matter.  Anschutz has been in the gun business since 1856 and has always used the best materials in constructing their guns by highly skilled and trained gunsmiths.  While everything carrying the Anschutz name is quite good, the firm excelled in the rimfire rifle business in particular, and Anschutz .22 rifles are sought after by collectors and target shooters alike.  In 1963 the Savage Arms company started importing Anschutz rifles and did so until 1981.  This example is marked Savage/Anschutz and was imported in the 1970's.  This Model 54 Sporter bolt-action repeater features a factory gloss blue finish and a 23" inch barrel with a ramped front sight and dovetailed rear sight that has been removed.  The receiver is both grooved and factory drilled and tapped as well.  The bolt is serial numbered to the rifle, and the safety for this rifle is mounted on the rear of the bolt.  This rifle comes with the factory 5-shot magazine and has an adjustable trigger.  This custom 54 Sporter is in great shape overall.  The factory blue finish is still very attractive and just has some small handling marks visible with little to no actual finish wear.  You can see this in the pictures provided.  The bore in this rifle is minty and bright.  It shows no pitting or erosion and the rifling still has sharp lands and grooves.  The original plain Walnut stock has been replaced with a spectacular piece of French Walnut.  The stock shows a tremendous amount of attractive contrasting grain and figure and has a schnabel style forend.  It is fit quite nicely and is free from cracks, gouges, or repairs.  The stock shows just some very minor handling marks that are only visible under close inspection.  The pistol grip end is painted black like a grip cap, and the butt is fitted with a black Pachmayer recoil pad that pulls 13.5" inches to the end of the pad.  Everything on this rifle works 100% like it did when it left the factory.  The action is smooth and locks up tight.  The trigger is exceptionally good on this rifle and has a crisp and very light break to it with no grittiness.  The former owner has told us that this rifle is an exceptionally accurate rifle with a variety of factory ammunition.  This Anschutz certainly has a elegant and classy look to it, and only lacks a scope and rings from being ready to take to the range or woods.  If you have been looking for a "one of a kind" high-end .22 rifle, this custom Anschutz Model 54 Sporter would be hard to beat.
