Description:
Colt Single Action Army 2nd Gen. in .38 Special. An early 2nd Gen. manufactured in 1959 with serial number 26388SA. This great looking second generation, single action army, features a 5 1/2" barrel, cased colored frame and blued barrel, cylinder, trigger-guard, backstrap and other miscellaneous parts. The bottom of the cased colored frame is stamped with the serial number, 26388SA. The top of the 5 1/2" barrel is stamped with a single address line, "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. Co, HARTFORD CT. USA.", and the left side is stamped, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 38 SPECIAL". The left side of the cased colored frame is stamped, “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871/JULY 2. 72 JAN. 19. 75”, and stamped just to the right is the famous Colt signature, the “Rampant Colt”. And the front right of the trigger-guard is stamped with a "P", and on the left side of the trigger-guard, at the front, is a stamped of a "pyramid" and within are the letters "VP", and the rear has another "P"  stamped. The cylinder is also stamped, at rear there is another stamping of the "Rampant Colt", and the front of the cylinder is stamped with the last three digits of the serial number, "388". Condition: The case colors remain in very good plus condition with very good contrasting colors of light to dark and has great shades of blue tones. There is some blue worn at some edges, as at the muzzle, end of ejector rod housing and trigger-guard. The backstrap and inside of lower frame shows a bit more blue lose where the palm and fingers hold the grip/grip frame. There are scrape marks on the cylinder in the same circular rotation as the cylinder drag line. Grips: The walnut stocks are in good plus condition, but showing some light scratches and small dings and impressions, and retains a good portion of the original lacquer finish. Bore: Lightly shot. Excellent condition with strong lands and grooves, very bright and shiny with no corrosion. This Colt Single Action Army has not been messed with! There has never been any alteration to the gun, or any of its parts, save for usual time and normal handling wear. The top of the hammer and its sides have not been rounded as to protect the shooter's hand when fanning the gun in fast draw shooting, like so many single action armies were from the late 1950s to early 70s time period. If you are after a good clean and great looking shooter with considerable original finish remaining, this 2nd Gen. .38 Special, just might be the one!
