My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles Description: This item is a First Model 1916 Newton rifle in caliber .30 Newton. (About) 17% or 675 rifles of the first model were made in this caliber. This rifle is numbered 3671 in 6 places including the stock. The grip cap and buttplate are numbered 3916 and that number is also in the wood in those two places. The rifle was probably assembled and sold by The Newton Arms Corporation or Kirtland Bros Hardware and not Newton Arms Co. Inc. The receiver and barrel retain about 97% of the original blue and the trigger guard and floor plate about 92%. The sights are original and it has a mirror bright bore. There is cold blue on the buttplate. The stock has handling marks and some slight crazing in small areas of the finish. There is a .25" x 1.5" chip of wood out of the stock just ahead of the bolt handle. The stock is cracked at the rear of the trigger guard and front and rear of the magazine. Cracks in the stocks are fairly common for first model Newton rifles in these higher calibers. This rifle is pictured in The Newton Rifle, Second Edition and in The Newton Rifle Handbook.
