Description:
The Ithaca Model 72 "Saddlegun" is a lever action carbine with a 18.5" inch barrel chambered in .22LR or .22WMR.  They were manufactured for the Ithaca Gun Company by the Erma Werke company in West Germany from 1973 to 1978.  They were well-built and accurate, and while commercially they were somewhat successful, they had lots of competition and Ithaca dropped the lever action rimfire carbines entirely in 1978 and focused on their shotgun development and production.  This Ithaca Model 72 Saddlegun is a .22LR model and is in excellent original condition.  It comes complete with the original box with the serial numbered factory label intact.  It is very apparent that this Model 72 has been shot and carried very little, and it has likely spent the vast majority of it's life in storage.  The original factory finish is in excellent shape with only some minor handling/storage marks.  These marks are all very small and do not take much from the attractive appearance of this Ithaca.  You can see what I am describing in the pictures provided.  The 18.5" inch barrel still has the original iron sights intact and in excellent condition, with the front sight still wearing the factory sight hood that was often lost.  The bore in this barrel is minty and bright.  There is zero pitting or erosion and the rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves.  The original factory Walnut stock set is also in excellent condition.  Both the forearm and buttstock are 100% free from cracks or repairs, and there are just a few extremely minor dings/dents if you examine it very closely.  The Walnut stocks have a beautiful look to them and the factory wood finish rates 99%.  The buttstock still has the original "Ithacagun" branded buttplate installed and the length of pull is 13.75" inches to the end of the buttplate.  The buttplate has a little minor damage in the molded Ithaca name area and around the top screw but it is cosmetic and the plate is still solid with no cracks.  There is a close-up of this part.  Everything on this gun works 100% like the day it left the factory.  The lever action is both tight and smooth, and when closed there is no play in the bolt.  The hammer and trigger both function flawlessly.  This Ithaca Model 72 Saddlegun would be a great addition to any collection.  Seldom do we ever see this model come thru our doors and when they do, they are never this nice and clean and with their original box.  Whether buying as an investment for a collection or as a fun gun to shoot targets and hunt with, it would be nearly impossible to find a better example than this one.
