WWII IMPERIAL Japanese KOKURA Type 99 Rifle C&R
Pacific Theater Rifle Made in 1942
Here we present a Japanese Type 99 Bolt Action Rifle & Bayonet, made in 1942 at the Kokura Arsenal. The Type 99 Rifle was conceived as an upgrade in chambering from the Type 38 Rifle designed by Nambu. While the 38 utilized the 6.5x50mm cartridge, the 99 was made to handle the larger, more powerful 7.7x58mm. These rifles were simple and very effective. Nearer the end of the war, with the U.S. successfully restricting traffic to the island nation, raw materials and other resources became more and more scarce, leading the arsenals to simplify production and materials even further. These no-nonsense rifles are known to current collectors as “last ditch”.
Per the markings on the receiver, this rifle was made by the Kokura Arsenal, and it was number 72241 of the 21st series.
This rifle is lacking several parts, including the internal parts of the bolt, as well as the top handguard. Metal surfaces are dark. Markings are clear. The stock is solid with typical wear. The bore is chrome-lined from the factory and is in good shape. The action is not functional.
