Description:

WWII CAPTURED Japanese NAGOYA Type 99 Rifle

418th Night Fighter Squadron Sgt. Lee

Here we present a Japanese Type 99 Bolt Action Rifle, made circa 1942 at the Nagoya arsenal. The Type 99 Rifle was conceived as an upgrade in chambering from the Type 38 Rifle designed by Nambu. While the 38 utilized the 6.5x50mm cartridge, the 99 was made to handle the larger, more powerful 7.7x58mm. These rifles were simple and very effective. Nearer the end of the war, with the U.S. successfully restricting traffic to the island nation, raw materials and other resources became more and more scarce, leading the arsenals to simplify production and materials even further. These no-nonsense rifles are known to current collectors as “last ditch”.

This example comes with official bring-back documentation of this rifle, noted by serial number. The soldier was Sgt. Leon R. Lee of the 418th Night Fighter Squadron. The markings on the left side of the receiver indicate that this was rifle 62414 of the 6th series of the Nagoya arsenal.

The overall condition is very good. The original blue finish is about 75%. The markings are clear. The imperial Japanese mum has been struck per official surrender protocol. The stock is in very good condition. The bore is bright and shiny with good rifling. The action is excellent.
