Description:
***************************************Rifle is SOLD PENDING FUNDS*******************************************

Up for sale is an early SS Contract Rifle manufactured in late 1943.  During the war the SS sought to create their own procurement and manufacturing channels outside of the Army’s contracts.  In 1943 the SS setup manufacturing at the Gusen concentration camp and Radom for K98 parts with assembly at Steyr (military code BNZ).   These early rifles were assembled with only a small number of parts serialed and with no waffen acceptance proofs.  The receiver on this rifle came from Gusen (the BNZ on the receiver lacks the trailing “.” which was used with Radom receivers) and is a good representative example of these contract rifles.  They were manufactured and assembled under the worst possible conditions and the early rifles typically show a very rough finish with none of the polish and fitting you see in those done under the Army contracts.  The rifle is serialed on the bolt, receiver, trigger guard, safety and stock channel.  The stock also has an e/623 at the wrist.  The handguard should be numbered but is not, although it matches the rifle perfectly in color and look, and was likely an early armorer spare replacement during the war.  The stock has NOT been sanded but has normal dings and wear, note that it includes the “Steyr” style bolt cutout, they are unique.  One of the locking screws on the Triggerguard snapped sometime in the past (pictured).  It does not impact takedown of the rifle or functionality and a qualified gunsmith could easily drill and remove with no damage if you like, I just tend to leave the guns as they are.  I will include an original German WWIII locking screw to replace with the rifle.  Rifle is duffel cut at the rear band and has an old glue repair that has come free, the cut and repair are not visible unless the rear band is removed.

SS guns can be a real minefield for collectors, this one matches perfectly with the known pattern for these early rifles in markings and serial number style stamping, it would make a fine addition to any collection.  Additional information about the SS contract rifles can be found in the recently published Karabiner 98k Volume IIb by Bruce Karem and Michael Steves (the Karabiner 98K series is a must have for any collector).

If you intend to shoot the rifle it should be inspected by a qualified gunsmith.

Rifle includes a 3-day non-firing inspection period

Rifle must ship to an FFL or FFL C&R
