1909 WINCHESTER Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle
.25-20 WCF in Short Format
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle in .25-20 WCF, made in 1909 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years.
This particular rifle is even more light and trim due to the fact that it has been shortened. Top of the barrel reads “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14 1884”. “.25-20 WCF” is marked over the breech end of the barrel. Tang is marked “MODEL 1892./--WINCHESTER--”.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces have a dark brown patina with traces of black paint. The markings are legible. The stock is a replacement that is smooth and in good condition. The bore is very fine, clean and sharp. The action on this rifle is strong.
