Description:
Cal 44 RF. Features the typical Hoggson style of engraving with a deer jumping a fence on one side and scroll grapevine pattern on the other. Receiver shows a fair amount of use. You can see how the guy carried it with his right hand. That side of the receiver on the bottom has considerable amount more wear than the other side. Amazing that a gun shows such a distinct pattern of being carried that much. A very fine old gun. Gun is still in nice condition. The receiver has turned a dark butterscotch color with no signs of polishing. Bbl has generally sharp corners and good markings. A VG bore that could stand a little cleaning but still bright and shiny. Factory Engraved guns always have fancy wood in the case of a Henry and this one is such. Wood has nice grained figure. Buttplate is also brass and engraved. Orig sling swivels. All matching numbers in the 2900 range. Wood does have an age crack going back from the upper tang screw. Other than that it is in VG condition with just the usual handling mars. Bbl has turned a gunmetal gray. A decent old gun that is hard to come by without being all screwed up.
