Description:

SCARCE ENGRAVED Antique Bacon Ring Trigger Pistol

One of only 400 Made Circa the 1850s

Here we present an antique Engraved Bacon & Co. Ring Trigger Percussion Pistol, manufactured circa the 1850s. This would have been used for self-defense in the mid-19th Century. The barrel is marked with “BACON&CO/NORWICH C-T”. It is also marked with “90” on the barrel by the trigger. Thomas K. Bacon was the founder of the company and was also involved with the Manhattan Fire Arms Co. as the superintendent. He also had business dealings with Ethan Allen and Allen & Thurber. When Manhattan moved their operation away from Norwich, Bacon left the company to stay behind and work on his own firearms manufacturing company. Part of Bacon’s contract with Manhattan included a “no-compete” clause that he would have been in violation of had the heads of Manhattan had bothered to sign the agreement. Nevertheless, they still took him to court with no official judgement recorded. Bacon’s arms were popular on the commercial market and many made their way onto Civil War battlefields upon being privately purchased by soldiers.

The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a peppery patina. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are good with period wear. The bore is visibly rifled, though coated with dust. The action on this pistol is strong. The percussion nipple is absent.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
