Description:
SOLD...A very nice and well above average antique 1886 Winchester. This is a great looking 1886 Winchester. S/N 29587 and made very early 1889. It is in the very sought after 45-70 caliber. Has the standard 26” octagon barrel. This ole 86 has a lot of finish remaining. The barrel has about 75% original blue. Starting to thin out a little in places but still very nice. Thinned out on the edges mostly and around the caliber markings from handling as you can see. Does show an area of pitting and some scratches on the left side of the barrel behind the mag tube retaining ring as you can see in the photo. This is the only area on the gun that is pitted... It is about 5 inches long. This is the only thing keeping this gun from being a $4000 + gun... The mag tube retains 30% or so blue in the protected area under the barrel. The left side of the receiver shows a couple very small and minor spots of surface crud that was lightly cleaned as does the mag tube but is not pitted bad. The lower tang shows some nice case colors as does the sides of the hammer. {see photos}.. The case colors on the sides of the receiver have pretty much silvered out with just traces showing in the right angle in good light. The bolt has most all the deep and bright blue remaining. All the markings are excellent as you can see. The bore is very near excellent and it is still bright and shiny with just very minor frosting. Very strong rifling from breech to muzzle. NO pitting, rings or bulges. It shoots as good as a new gun. The mechanics are all excellent as well. Feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. Still has both original front and rear sight. The rear being the original ladder style marked 1886. The wood is also very nice. The forearm still fits full and proud to the metal. NO splits or cracks. Never sanded on or messed with. Shows a couple honest handling dings and that is it....... The butt stock is very nice. Still fits full and proud to the metal. NO splits or cracks and shows the normal handling dings and scratches. Very nice wood. Not much more to say about this nice 86. It is what it is and still way better than the gray-brown ones you see. Just has had some poor storage over the years but thankfully it was saved before getting too bad... It is in the perfect caliber with octagon barrel and still retains a lot of nice finish for the money. I can send many more close up photos of the barrel blue if needed and answer any questions you may have. If you are looking for a very nice 86 with an excellent bore for shooting and lots of finish and can stand the spot of pitting on the barrel, this is the gun you are looking for.... Very hard to find one in this condition for less !!! $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with questions or more photos. Thank you for looking and check back often as I have more quality antique firearms to get listed soon.
