Description:
Gorgeous Belgium made Browning Superposed Grade V (Diana) factory 2 barrel set (12 and 20 gauge) with original trunk case in excellent condition. This shotgun comes with a letter from Browning historian authenticating it's factory configuration as a 2 gauge set originally sold to Oshman Outdoor Store in 1959. Features include 26 1/2" barrels, round knob, long tang, single selective trigger, and extractors. S/N 68*** is matching on all components throughout, indicating a manufacture date of 1959. Factory engraved and signed by the master Browning engraver R. Dewil (Rene Dewil) with superbly executed scroll pattern and intricate game scenes depicting pheasant, duck, quail, and rabbit.
Barrel sets for both gauges are 26 1/2" with ventilated ribs and all barrels are choked SKEET. The 12 gauge barrels have 2 ¾” chambers, while the 20 gauge barrels have 2 ¾” or 3” chambers and are so stamped.
Condition of metal finishes is excellent throughout, showing little to no wear beyond some expected loss of finish to the gold plated trigger. The fabulous pre salt era wood exhibits exceptional flame grain with rich and vibrant color. There are a couple of non structural hairline grain checks or minor surface cracks originating at union of butt stock and receiver, radiating out into each scalloped side panel about ½”. Balance of wood shows a few scattered, light handling marks but remains in excellent condition throughout. Length of Pull is 14 ¼” to the black decelerator pad.
Mechanical function, lock up, and bores all appear to be excellent and in proper working order.
Overall, a wonderful example of one of the finest shotguns ever created in a very desirable grade and in the scarce 2 gauge configuration.
