Description:
James Atkinson percussion rifle dating to 1833-1836. Very rare left handed carbine length in what appears to be 40 caliber. 1/3 octagon and 1/2 stock.  Over all measures 46 1/4 with a barrel length of 31. Over all very nice condition with a very nice bore and strong rifling. Bore does have some pitting but not bad at all. It also has a large majority of it being quite shiny bright. All I ran through this was a nylon brush, I would think it will really clean up nice with a good thorough cleaning. Bore gauge stops at a hair under 40. Exterior is very nice over most of barrel with a smooth plum patined finish. Only area that it has pitting is at the breech and its not that bad. All functions work as they should. Nothing is cracked or broken and the wood truly looks great with a very nice striping. It does need a good cleaning, its very dark but in the sun light really stands out. I have not cleaned it in any way other than running a brush down the bore. James Atkinson was from Washington county, Nottingham township, PA. Was a manufacturer for 3 years only. Being left handed, this would be a very rare if not one of a kind from this gentleman. Please ask any questions.
