Description:
This vintage custom FN Mauser sporter is a functional work of art, and was assembled by someone skilled with an eye for details. This rifle is classy and beautiful, and is in excellent condition overall. The action and bolt is sourced from a FN manufactured Venezuelan military contract Mauser and paired with a custom Flaig's 24" inch barrel chambered in .25-06 caliber. The floorplate and triggerguard were commercially sourced. The barrel, receiver, triggerguard, rear of the bolt & bolt handle, and floorplate were expertly polished and finished with a beautiful gloss blue. The bolt body, extractor, magazine follower, and bolt release were all jeweled to a bright polish. The original military trigger was replaced with a custom Canjar adjustable unit with a safety. The safety, which was originally mounted on the bolt, was relocated to the right side of the rear tang with this trigger swap. The safety relocation was an excellent touch, and required quite a bit of work to make it look like the original location with the inletting in the stock. This rifle was then fit to a spectacular Monte-Carlo Walnut stock with beautiful figure and stripes showing, yet it has straight and strong grain in the important areas. The woodwork on this stock is good. The checkered pistol grip and forearm is clean and crisp. The pistol grip features a checkered blued metal grip cap that is perfectly fit. The buttstock has a Niedner-style checkered metal buttplate which is also expertly fit, and the stock was also fit with small and clean-looking sling swivel studs. This rifle was paired up with a 1st class Leupold VX-3 3.5 to 10 power scope with an adjustable objective lens also in excellent condition. It is mounted up on Redfield bases and rings and the optics are crystal clear in perfect shape. The windage and elevation adjustments as well as the objective lens and power ring all work 100% like the day it left the factory. The scope has a standard "duplex" crosshair reticle. This rifle has obviously lived an easy life, likely in storage or a gun cabinet most of the time. The bluing is in excellent condition, with only a few minor handling marks visible under close inspection. The bore is minty and bright, with sharp lands and grooves still showing in the rifling. The bore is completely free from pitting or erosion. The stock is in excellent shape as well, free from cracks or repairs with only minor handling/storage marks. The action on this rifle is extremely smooth and the bolt locks up tight. The trigger is light and crisp, breaking without any grit or slop. If you have been looking for a rifle that will turn heads and shoot tight groups, this custom FN .25-06 would be a great choice. It is certainly one of a kind, and it certainly was built properly with the best of parts. This rifle would be right at home in any custom rifle collection or in the woods chasing after Whitetail deer.
