MATCHED PAIR of FRENCH Antique FLINTLOCK Pistols
NAPOLEONIC-Era Brace of Flint Pistols
Here we present a Matched Pair of antique French Flintlock Pistols, made circa the late 18th Century in France. These large bored pistols would have been intended for use as self-defense firearms. They are relatively small, being able to fit into a large pocket or in a belt. Each one is only 7-3/4 inches in overall length. The barrel begins octagonal and transitions to a round cannon shape at the muzzle with a band at the transition and at the muzzle. Stocks are bird’s head shaped at the pommel with tightly fitting caps. The trigger guards have shapely finials. Locks are petite with gracefully curved hammers. Each is equipped with its own ramrod. This is a very attractive set.
The overall condition of each of these pistols is fine. The metal surfaces remain bright. The bores are both smooth and clean. The stocks are in fine condition with a few minor handling marks. The actions on both of these pistols is excellent. Here is a beautiful set of French flintlocks such as one might have carried during Napoleon’s lifetime.
