REGT. MARKED FLINTLOCK MUSKET (BATTLE OF YORKTOWN REGIMENT). 46” round .79 caliber smoothbore barrel with faint Royal Ordnance proofs at the breech and stamped “REGT” at the top. Original flint lock with all the original lock parts engraved at the tail “EDGE/-760”. Richard Edge contracted with Ordnance in the late 1750’s and his last dated muskets are 1760 and 1762. Original walnut stock with all the original brass mounts and sling swivels and ramrod. Brass wrist plate engraved in with the original Royal Ordnance regimental issue numbers “1/33” for the First Battalion, 33rd. Regiment of Foot one of the main British Regiments to serve in the Colonies during the Revolutionary War. Has seen long service and has nice even wear overall and all the original deep metal patina and wood finish. Untouched original attic condition in every respect. Old original 18th Century initials “SK” hand stippled on left butt. The regiment arrived here in May of 1776 serving in the New York Campaign of 1776 including the Battles of Long Island, White Plains and Fort Washington. The Philadelphia Campaign of 1777 including the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown. A unit of 50 men served at the Battle of Saratoga in late 1777. Monmouth Court House in 1778. On Long Island in winter of 1778-9 and again in action at Tappan, New York in 1779 before the 33rd departed for the Carolinas in December of 1779. Took a major part in the battles of Camden and Guilford Court House. In the Virginia Campaign of 1781 at the Battle of Green Spring and subsequently the Battle of Yorktown where it surrendered to Washington’s forces. It was returned from prison to Halifax in early 1783. Marvelous history and a marvelous Brown Bess in the attic condition Revolutionary War collectors love and from one of the most historic British Regiments to have served throughout the war and surrender at Yorktown.
