Description:
Serial #730, .303 British, 20 3/4" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an LSA-made, undated carbine that has a mostly cleaned gray patina on the receiver with dark brown varnish, while the replacement, Birmingham proofed barrel has nearly all of the original blue remaining. The remainder of the metal has silvering at the muzzle, edges of the trigger guard, and on the bearing surfaces of the mismatched, but correct, bolt. The carbine has the sling swivel-equipped nosecap, and is still fitted with the magazine cut-off. A pivoting metal toggle has been added to the right rear of the receiver that is attached to a short lever that contacts the sear on the inside of the rifle. When pushed into the forward position, the action functions normally, but when pivoted to the rear position, the act of closing the bolt fires the rifle, thus giving the user ten very quick shots for a close range, close quarters fight. The walnut stock (aside from the chipping around the inletting for the rapid fire toggle) and forend have a rich, dark brown varnished finish over scattered minor handling marks and blemishes, with a crisp Enfield “I*" cartouche on the right side. The brass buttplate has a dark, yellow-ochre patina overall. The carbine was part of the well known Faris collection, sold in October of 2017, and is extensively illustrated on page 90 of “The Lee-Enfield" by Ian Skennerton (2008). The carbine is mechanically tight, fully functional, in very good overall condition. This is a great example of a published Lee-Enfield carbine with a unique adaptation. FFL or C&R
