Description:
This is a “Zouave Rifle" bayonet that measures 25" overall with a 20" single-edged, yataghan blade having unstopped single fullers. The steel has an almost entirely bright original polish, but does have areas of darker freckling present at the forte on both sides, most noticeably on the reverse. The ricasso reverse is unmarked, and there is a small “R" on the opposite. The cast brass hilt has a single forward swept quillon, large muzzle-ring, grooved grip and bird's head pommel with functional latch stud, and the usual “B.H." inspector initials stamped on the back flat. The brass has a mild tarnish, but is predominantly a pleasing yellow-ochre color overall. The bayonet comes with an intact and little-worn leather and brass scabbard which has almost no crazing or surface wear at all. This is a very nice example of a Civil War Remington saber bayonet, and is in very good overall condition.
