Description:
Serial #20886, .45 2 7/8" Straight, 32" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very handsome rifle that has retained about 80-85% of the original blue on the unmarked barrel (however matching serial numbers are present on the underside of the barrel beneath the forend) with some fading, and minor surface scratches along the sides, and some mild silvering at the muzzle. The frame retains 40-50% of the original color case-hardening with some pale gray fading at the edges, the gutta-percha side panels are intact, and both the trigger and safety have deep checkering. The mechanics are tight and fully functional. The wedge-fastened, checkered walnut forend with ebony tip is numbered to the gun (as is the wedge) and is in fine shape with only a few minor handling marks in the lovely old added oil finish. A few minuscule chips along the edges are there, but extremely minor. The buttstock has a checkered, pistol-grip with gutta-percha cap, hard rubber Sharps Rifle Co. buttplate, and filled inlet for the back sight at the heel. The condition of the buttstock matches that of the forend closely. The rifle is outfitted with a modern windage adjustable, spirit level front sight, and and matching tang-mounted Vernier rear sight. In addition to the filled rear sight mount inletting, there is a barrel sight dovetail that is filled with a blank. This is a beautiful Sharps-Borchardt, in fine condition, and chambered in an impressive .45 caliber cartridge. Antique
