PERCUSSION ROCKY MOUNTAIN RIFLE CIRCA 1850. One of the finest untouched Hawken rifles extent and rarely seen for sale. Signed on the barrel “S. HAWKEN ST. LOUIS”. Absolutely genuine original signature stamp in every respect showing wear commensurate with the wear on the barrel overall. Heavy weight 37” octagon .54 caliber rifled barrel measuring 1 1/8” across the flats at the muzzle. Weighs 11 ¼ lbs. Original Hawken Rocky Mountain Buckhorn rear sight and original brass blade front sight. Plain steel large size ramrod pipes and thimble typical of these rifles. Classic St. Louis plain steel trigger guard and butt plate. Long steel upper tang and Hawken double set triggers. Lightly engraved warranted lock with faint lock maker stamp “G. GOLCHER”. Maple Rocky Mountain cheek rest stock with double barrel wedges and steel escutcheons also hallmarks of this famous maker. Very good condition for one of these rifles which saw heavy use in the North West Fur Trade. Metal with nice original dark attic patina and stock very good old medium to dark original finish. Lock and triggers in perfect working order and good bore with wear and darkening but very well defined rifling and no serious pitting.
