Description:
RARE AND FINE WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 NORTH WEST MOUNTED POLICE .45-75 W.C.F. CAL. SADDLE RING CARBINE CIRCA. 1884. 100% original and matching and complete. 22” barrel with crisp “WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN, CT.” address and King’s Improvement 1860 and 1866 patent dates. Serial number 45160 which is listed in Phillips and Klancher’s book ARMS & ACCOUTREMENTS OF THE MOUNTED POLICE” p. 185. Fine condition overall with approximately 60-70% blue on the barrel and 30-40% on the frame. It even has greying case hardening on the loading lever and hammer. Has the original finish on the stock and forend with nice handling patina and only a few service dents. Right side of butt with clearly visible “NWMP” banner cartouche. It is additionally stamped behind the lower tang “ A A P 135” for the Alberta Provincial Police. One of the best of these we have seen it even has a good bore with well defined rifling and is in perfect working order. Only about 1200 of these were ordered from Winchester and they were highly prized by the Mounties with most still in service in the mid 1920’s. A photo of the Alberta Mounted Provincial Police with their 76 Carbines is shown on page 19 of Phillips and Klancher’s very interesting book. Nicest one we have had and with all the right markings and serial number listed in the book. With factory letter.
