Description:
This Marocchi Contrast under-single trap gun is a beauty. Marocchi shotguns are "handmade" in Italy and considered very good quality and reliable. Marocchi was founded in 1922 Stefano Marocchi and the firm got it's start by producing parts for very high end double guns by Holland & Holland, Anson, and others. In 1957 Marocchi introduced it's first over and under shotgun, the SM57 Model. Since that time Marocchi has continued to build fine over and under shotguns as well as semi auto shotguns and other products that require intricate machining and engineering. Marocchi has developed a very strong reputation over this time period for a high quality shotgun that will stand up to hard use and look good doing it. This example is a under-single Contrast Trap Model. Bearing a strong resemblance to a Perazzi, what makes this shotgun unique is the shallow action made possible by the action locking lugs being mounted at the rear halfway up the lower chamber. This is a very strong design that allows for a nice shallow action profile despite being 12 gauge and having the ability to take a set of over and under barrels or the under-single currently mounted. This Marocchi Contrast has factory blued 32" inch under-single barrel with a trap-style high post rib. It is choked with .015 thousandths constriction, and the high post rib has a silver mid-bead as well as white main bead. The receiver has a factory case colored finish, and has a non-selectable single gold finished trigger as well as a tang mounted safety. The original factory stock set is a checkered Walnut competition trap style set with an adjustable comb and a pistol grip with a right-handed palm swell. The length of pull is 14.5" inches to the end of the recoil pad, and the drop at the heel is 1.5" inches. This Contrast is in very good shape overall and is mechanically excellent. The bore in this shotgun is minty and bright. It is free from pitting, dents, bulges, or defects of any kind. The false partial over "barrel" has the factory built-in snap cap in place and the spring loaded brass center shows a dent from the top firing pin hitting it. The factory bluing on this barrel set is in excellent shape and rates 95% with some very minor handling marks. The case colored receiver still shows beautiful colors with very minimal finish wear. As you can see in the pictures the only place there seems to be some fading of the colors is the very bottom of the receiver from being carried. This action locks up super tight with no wiggle or slop whatsoever. The trigger is crisp and the safety works perfectly. The factory stock set is in great shape as well. Outside of some minor handling and storage marks, the stock set is free from cracks or repairs. The checkered forearm and pistol grip with a palm swell still looks clean, and the checkering still provides a nice gripping surface. The adjustable comb can be raised up to 3/8ths of an inch, as well as moved left or right in a half inch long track to get the perfect fit for your size and style of shooting. The buttstock has been fitted with a Pachmayer White Line recoil pad, which is in good shape and provides some felt recoil reduction. This is a very nice and classy gun that is ready to go to the trap field. It is particularly nice in that if the new owner so chooses, this Marocchi Contrast could be fit to a set of over and under barrels to shoot doubles trap or sporting clays. If you have been looking for an upgrade to your trap gun, or just another high-end trap gun to add to your collection, this Contrast would be an excellent choice. Priced at just over 1000 dollars, this is a real bargain as well!
