Description:
FN made this classy and beautiful 30-06 caliber Browning rifle in 1969 in the factory in Belgium.  It is the famed "long extractor" version of the 98 Mauser action, and is considered the best of the Belgian made Browning production rifles.  Manufactured during the late 1960's, this rifle was made during the period when many of Browning's firearms were stocked with salt-cured wood which caused major corrosion problems.  This particular rifle however was not one of the "salt guns"; it is in it's original stock and was tested and is completely salt-free.  The original gloss blue factory finish rates 95% plus with only some minor handling/storage marks.  The bore in the 22" inch barrel on this rifle is pristine and minty.  It is bright with sharp lands and grooves in the rifling, and is completely free from pitting or erosion.  The barrel still has both the front and rear factory iron sights intact and in excellent shape.  The front sight still has the factory sight hood in place and the adjustable rear sight functions perfectly.  The hand-checkered European Walnut stock has some small handling and storage marks on it, but is still very attractive and 100% structurally sound.  It is free from cracks or repairs, and the minor dents/dings/scratches all seem to be in the clear finish rather than in the wood underneath.  The clear coat finish shows some minor "spider cracking" typical of these Browning rifles and shotguns from this period.  As you can see in the pictures, the stock was made from a nice piece of Walnut with a lot of nice grain and figure showing in it.  The checkering on the forearm and pistol grip is still crisp, and this stock came with factory installed sling swivel studs and a black plastic Browning-branded buttplate.  The length of pull is 13.75" inches to the end of the buttplate.  All of the controls and the action work 100% like the day it left the factory.  This Browning rifle comes with Leupold bases and medium 1" inch rings already installed in the factory drilled mounting locations.  All this rifle needs is a scope to be ready to take to the range or woods.  While there are numerous deer rifles on the market today very few are as collectible and classy as this one.  These Belgian made Browning Safari rifles were one of the best production rifles money could buy when they were new, and remain today one of the best you can own.  You could carry this rifle into any hunting camp in the world and be proud of owning it.
