It was believed that King Nicholas of Montenegro made the ownership of such revolvers mandatory for his male population. It is also well known for being used by the Mexican rebels under Pancho Villa's guidance during the US/Mexican war of 1916. Pancho Villa bought a load of more than 5,000 11mm Montenegrin which had been previously modified in .44 Winchester caliber. It was originally chambered for a massive 11mm round. The revolver has a 5 3/8” round barrel and takes a 44-40 (44 Winchester) caliber round. Marked "FOR 44 WINCHESTER CARTRIDGES BELGIUM" along with the appropriate proof acceptance marks. Mostly a plum/brown patina with bone carved grips. Action is a little sloppy and needs a tune up.
