Description:
SOLD..Very good antique 1886 Winchester with a great bore. Here is a pretty nice ole 1886 Winchester. Has the famous Browning Brothers Utah marking on the barrel in front of the front sight...{ see photo } The man who invented the 86, 92 and the 94 is the man who probably ordered and sold this gun... These are the earlier ones. The later ones had the marking behind the front sight. This gun was absolutely western shipped.. Has the standard 26” octagon barrel. It is in the very sought after 45-70 caliber. S/N 27034 and made in 1888. To start with, the bore is near excellent. Strong and mostly bright rifling with some minor frosting.. NO big pits, rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly and positive. It shoots great as would be expected with this nice of a bore... Hard to find bores this nice on no finish 86's.. The metal is a smooth medium gray to brown patina. No pitting on the gun. Excellent markings. Original front and rear sights. Some peen marks by the front sight not bad or real noticeable and does not detract from this ole work horse. Screw heads are still sharp and not all burred up from amateur tinkering. The forearm fits tight to the metal with no slivers missing or cracks. Show honest wear with dings and scratches but no abuse. The butt stock has some issues as you can see. For one, there is a small nick out of the front of the comb from an owner having a tang sight installed. Do not know why they do this. Why don't they just adjust the sight down so it will not hit the comb is beyond me. Instead they made a small notch so the sight would clear when folded down when not in use. It is what it is folks and I am not done yet.... Looks like it got too close to a fire at one time as it is burnt at the top by the butt plate tang as you can clearly see.... A little worse on the left side but is on both sides as you can see. It looks like it was burnt but could be wear and or abuse... You can make up the story. It is what it is …. Would be a much better looking gun if you had a better butt stock and of course be worth at least a couple hundred dollars more than I have it priced. With this issue in mind I think I have it priced very fair because of the great bore this one has. The bore basically makes up for the rough stock in my opinion. This ole 86 is a great shooter for someone who wants a very clean bore for shooting and not so worried about the stock. This is a western shipped and used gun to boot... Drag this one through the briers and no worries about a scratch on this one. Still a nice looking gun in the perfect configuration that everyone wants... If I had a better stock it would be on it.... $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos of any area you want to see. I want happy customers. Thank you for looking and please check back often as I have more antique guns to get listed. I get a lot of calls on these guns AFTER they have already sold !!!! Don't miss it...
