Description:
Serial #114609, .36 Caliber, 7 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an 1861 manufactured, fourth type revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, gripstraps, cylinder, barrel, and arbor. The wedge is not numbered, and the barrel retains traces of the original bright blue on protected areas, but is otherwise a smooth plum-brown. The cylinder has a mostly mottled plum-brown patina with some freckling at the face, and mild pinprick pitting around the nipples. The naval scene remains, but can be a little difficult to make out in places. The frame was lightly cleaned at some point, however there is about 25-30% of the original color case-hardening still visible, especially on the protected areas under the recoil shield. The triggerguard and gripstrap have a mostly bright yellow patina with some spots of dark tarnish scattered about, and the walnut grips are in fine shape with only minor wear and handling marks. The lock-up is tight, and the mechanism functions flawlessly. The revolver is accompanied by a 1984 dated, Colt factory letter that lists the gun as part of a 25 piece shipment to Smith, Crane & Co. in New York City, on October 12, 1861. This is a handsome, Civil War period Model 1851 Navy that rates fine condition. Antique
