Winchester Model 1892 Sporting Rifle .44-40 24 inch factory octagon Barrel. The serial number of this example is 56855 placing date of manufacture in 1894. The Buffalo Bill Museum Letter from Cody Wyoming provides the following description at time of shipment: Type: Rifle Caliber: .44 Barrel: Octagon Trigger: Plain Received into the Warehouse on: March 12, 1896 Shipped from the Warehouse on: April24, 1896 Shipped with six other rifles. Order Number: 10724 Overall condition is very good and untouched. 30% original factory finish with remainder toned to a very nice even patina. The bore is very good and will rate an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. Wood to metal fit is perfect. No breaks, cracks or slivers missing. A very nice collectible.
