Description:
MODEL 1917 U.S. ARMY .45ACP (OR .45 AUTO RIM) REVOLVER, This is the classic World War I Colt revolver made for issue to our troops as there were not enough M-1911 autos available! Most of these fine New Service Colts saw hard service in the trenches and many were again reissued for service in the 2nd World War. This example is probably in the latter category. While the action locks up tightly and the bore is excellent, the external appearance of the metal is basically a dull brown from carry and handling. All markings are sharp and clear including the rampant colt on the frame. The underside of the barrel is correctly stamped “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and the top of the barrel retains all the Colt and patent markings. There is still some nice fire blue on the back of the hammer and trigger sides. Walnut grips are basically solid and only show some handling wear. Front sight is not filed or altered. The U.S. Army markings on the butt are sharp and the lanyard swivel is intact. Matching assembly numbers on the inside of the crane and frame. There is also the number “382” stamped in small numerals on the bottom of the barrel by the U.S. markings, inside the crane and on the frame under the grips. Not sure what this number means or if it is simply another assembly number. Shows no evidence of being cleaned or polished- just carried, used and taken care of.
