Description:
This underlever back-action sidelock double rifle by Schmidt & Habermann of Suhl is a nice example of the quality and craftsmanship from a past era of German gunmaking.  The 25" barrels are .42 cal and have a nice brown patina.  They feature a standing rear sight and one flip up sight.  The bores are in good shape with strong rifling still present.

The action locks up tight, testament to the skill of the gunmaker.  There is some very nice detailed work put into the external hammers.  The double triggers include a set feature for a very light trigger pull on the front trigger.  The action has very complete engraving coverage for a gun of this age with small panels of game scenes on both sides of the action.

The well figured stock has a 14 1/4" LOP to a German silver curved buttplate.  The stock also has an engraved, inletted patch box on the right side.  The stock is in very solid condition with no cracks.

Function is still good though I noticed the right hammer has a little more play to it than the left one does.  The firing pins are of the rebounding type and I noted that the right one is sometimes a little sticky.

The gun weighs in at 7 lbs 8 oz.

This fine old double rifle is from my collection of German guns that I am offering for sale as I reduce the size.  Please take a look at my other listings for more unique creations of the German gunmaker's art.
