RARE AMERICAN FOOT ARTILLERY MILITIA OFFICER’S PLAIN EAGLE POMMEL SWORD AND SCABBARD BY F.W. WIDMANN CA. LATE 1830’S. 29” overall with 23 ½” blade with gilded floral and martial motif etching on a fire blue ground. Plain stylized brass Eagle Pommel “D” guard hilt stamped on the forward face of the guard in an intaglio cartouche “F.W. WIDMANN/PHILADA”. Leather scabbard with plain brass mounts. Excellent condition with much fire blue and gilding on blade and traces of gilding on the face of the guard about the juncture of the blade. Scabbard excellent. 100% original and in fine condition overall. One of the few examples of this sword with a scabbard as well as one signed by Widmann.
