PENNSYLVANIA FLINTLOCK LONGRIFLE WITH EAGLE PATCHBOX SIGNED S. BECK CIRCA 1810. 57” o/a with 40” octagon .45 cal. rifled barrel signed “S. BECK” in script with 8 point flowers engraved before and after as well as between the initial “S” and “BECK”. Ornately engraved “EAGLE” finial brass patch box and mounts. Tiger maple stock with checkered wrist and incised carving along the forend. Old brass trade tacks on underside of butt stock. Exceptional engraving by one of the members of the Beck family of Lancaster and Lebanon several of whom emigrated west to Ohio and Indiana later in the 19th Century. Very similar box on a Beck rifle by Christian Very good overall with good wood restoration along the forend but with most of the original finish with nice handling patina. Metal with nice original patina. Lock in working order. One of the most ornately engraved patch boxes we have ever had.
